I would say you are old enough but I think you may want to try to find someone in a small construction business with more years of experience. [who]

get someone to work with you, who is older, that way you get the job done faster and can get more work done [who]

I’d agree, except in many areas you have to be 18 and have a minimum level of liability insurance to work.

But you are certainly old enough to learn more and use those skills with other individuals who might need an extra pair of hands, eyes, etc.

I used to run a small repair business for many years while I was working other full time jobs. When I got into law enforcement, I stopped working the odd jobs, but now that OT is drying up I have considered going back into the work. I always had a great time, the money is decent because people want those small jobs done as quickly and easily as possible, and there was always the satisfaction of a job well done in the end.

I don’t know what the overall economy will do this business as I can imagine some people not fixing things as quickly. But, there will always probably be a need for some home remodeling, repairs, etc as the baby boomer generation ages more and can’t fix more things themselves. [who]

Just to add to what the other guys said, you could be as good as the best in the business, but if you don’t have clients, you won’t get any jobs.
    Or very few.
And 16 is a pretty young age to work for yourself.
What you want to do is hook up with someone who’s been in the business a while and work with them for a couple of years, or at least till you start getting your own jobs.
And always take pictures of before you start, and after your jobs done so you’ll have the beginnings of a portfolio.
You know, a record of the jobs you’ve done.
That’s how I started in the business. I saw some horrible work that others had done, and I thought I could do so much better than that.
    So I did.
I’ve never had to advertise, and I’ve always been busy because I always made sure the customer was satisfied.
I get all my jobs from word of mouth and repeat clients.
So as long as you’re as good as you say, you’ll stay busy and make some good money. [who]

Can you legally enter into a contract? Can you get insurance? Are you bonded? Who pays if you get hurt on the job? Will you pay your taxes? How will you collect if you get stiffed? If someone steals your tools how will you replace them? How will you get your ladders to the job? Will you need your own phone line? What happens if a job is not finished and school starts? Who will have to go to court if someone brings a law suite against you? Do you have references if you need them? Does your car insurance cover you if you are going to or coming from a job? Are any of the above questions really important? [who]
