Remodeling our new home, what were these people thinking?!
My fiance, son and I are considering buying a house that was foreclosed on in the middle of them remodeling. It’s a 3 bedroom, and the room that is closest to the family room they tore down the top half of the wall and were making an attempt to put a bar in (we think). Anyhow, they put a hole in the hardwood floor and built a staircase leading to the basement and it takes up more than half of what was once the 3rd bedroom. I don’t know how to cover the hole back up and put the stairs in another place that would allow us to rebuild the 3rd bedroom back to it’s original size! The space where the stairs are is roughly 4×5 feet and all of the floors are hardwood. We plan to carpet the whole house if we choose to get it though. Does anyone know how you would essentially put the floor back into where it used to be? And how costly it would be? I don’t even know where to begin! Thanks!

!st remove the stairs. Then scab on to the floor joists with the same size of 2″ material (6 0r 8″). Lay you hardwood floor on top of the joists. This will replace the floor. If the basement has a ceiling , you will have to replace that as well. Cost is heavily influenced by you location, but I would think that much could be done for 600-1000 dollars. [who]
