I had my home remodeling by adding 500 square feet to existing house. Some people said that less than 500 square feet of increase would not be affected by property tax increase in CA. I received a supplemental tax bill to pay more. Should I appeal or pay it?

You can appeal, but it will delay the inevitable! [who]

I believe property tax is calculated by taking a precent of the appraised value of the home. Adding 500SF in CA would surely add more monetary value to the home. Therefore you would be required to pay more taxes. [who]

Since property taxes are based on the estimated market value of the property, they could indeed go up. It really depends on what you added. 500 square feet is not a lot, but if it’s an extra bathroom or a bigger kitchen, those are most likely to add to the value of the house. [who]

,I would appeal it but before you do so, Make sure you remove the door and hinges from the entry way to the addition.this room in turn can not be called a bedroom. But a den or sitting room.
As long as the permit was pulled for The entire scope of work and is to code
I would appeal it because th sqr footage is minimal
    Good luck [who]
